San Diego is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches California has to offer. Its 70 miles of pristine shores are a perfect backdrop for any beach vacation. The southernmost beach, Border Field State Park, actually borders Mexico, and is divided by a big wall running out into the ocean. If you travel further north, you will pass through Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado, where camping grounds and barbeque pits are available for use. Farther up the coast is San Diego's popular Pacific Beach. This long beach, known as The Strand, lies directly adjacent to the residential and commercial areas of the Pacific Beach and Mission Beach communities. It is the most popular beach in the City of San Diego and draws large crowds in summer. North Pacific Beach continues to the north, but is visually separated by Crystal Pier, a publicly accessible fishing pier. If you travel to San Diego be sure to visit Mission Beach with its roller coaster and famous "Plunge," then north to La Jolla Cove to go scuba diving, and finally visit Children's Beach where you can find seals sunbathing.
